Risk's Ramblings: Half-Christmas & Proteomics

I'm going to write some ramblings, inspired by another fellow rambler. I believe that rambling is important, as it gives us insight into the often not seen. That small subtle something that we overlook as we read through regular furnished text.

That's not me in the photo above. It's an older version with a beard.

Today was easter. I completely forgot. As I have travelled through time these special dates have been shown to be meaningless to me. I need someone else or something else to trigger these seasons or days for them to happen. Only St Parick's day, Half-Christmas (25th June), and Halloween have meaning. Halloween and St Patricks day are of Irish origin. I do not know where Half-Christmas came from, but it is my favourite christmas. Real christmas for me has in recent years been a divine gift. I have been blessed/cursed by many friends, and living in a city (I'm back in the quiet country now), having days or a week to yourself is impossible. Real christmas would change that. I would have at least several days by myself. A few years ago I had a tradition with my Pakistani friend in which we would watch a Bollywood movie on christmas. This tradition lasted two years until he was removed by the British Gestapo; he was a popular guy known thoughout the city. Liverpool weeped that day.

I was in Pakistan visiting recently, but I cannot remember if we watched a Bollywood film. I have a journal filled with notes on that journey which would provide me with answer if I so chose. I have a feeling I was not in the mood, but I do remember a Christmas miracle in which we found a beer. Getting alcohol in Pakistan was a pain.

What a ramble! I was going to ramble about today and what I've just been up to. I was reading over scientific research and feeling mad as hell that the elucidation of our proteins is far off. So many papers have scientists talking about the "elucidation of these proteins in the coming years", but it's a joke. Not much has changed. I guess you get what you pay for.
Sometimes I just think how stupid humans are "Can't you see that we could cure these diseases easily if there was funding to understand the proteome? Do you honestly think scientists stabbing in the dark will find you that miracle cure?" and then I remember I am a human.
It's not our fault we are dragging our heels with research. It's just that our systems have chosen money being spent on bombing families instead, and other assorted pointless things. I hate fiat money so much. I think it is because it is ugly and useless. I once burned money in a bar to show how it had no value; I was immediatly compensated with drinks from the bartender (who thought it was an accident between my paper money and the candle) invalidating my claim. Will cryptocurrency be a game changer for research?

Imagine if you could choose where your taxes go. "No, sorry I don't want to spend 10 years worth of tax on a bomb for some Syrian children, I'll place it all on research and services!"
Cryptocurrency will allow us to choose what we back with our money.

I'm currently folding with folding coin (right now in the background). I've only recently discovered the science coins. I got some gridcoin first, and bought folding coin because of its name (and price), then later learnt what it was. Background processes are testing out potential binding interactions.

PrgW is a replication initiation protein from the bacteria Enterococcus faecalis. Experimental studies and homology modeling studies suggest that PrgW has a binding interaction with a pheromone peptide, eventually leading to conjugative plasmid transfer (i.e. sharing of DNA between bacteria that helps them resist antibiotics). These simulations are designed to test this potential binding interaction.

Will bioinformatics save us from our inability to fund lab research? I don't think so, but it will help.
You wouldn't believe the technology that exists, or the knowledge that just sits idly by in some research paper. The scientific institutions needs an upgrade.

That's enough of this ramble for today.
