Mera aasmaan dhoonde teri zameen
Meri har kammi ko hai tu laazmi
Zameen pe na sahi
Toh aasmaan mein aa mil
Tere bina guzaara
'Ae dil hai mushkil'

7am view of the Mighty Himalaya, from the Leh-Delhi flight. A beautiful bonus of flying from or into Ladakh.
On the inward flight, landing at Leh airport is a revelation. The stunning change in landscape made me marvel, that from Delhi, I was only an hour and twenty minutes away from paradise.
Thumb rule for Himalaya views from flights:
• Flying out of Delhi and going north or east, try and get a left window seat.
• Flying to Delhi from the north or east, try and get a right window seat.
• If you like sun flare, then going north in the morning, take right side seats. Also right side seats, for returning from the north in the afternoon and evening flights for sun flare.
• Topographically, the whole of the district is mountainous, with three parallel ranges of the Himalayas, the Zanskar, the Ladakh and the Karakoram.
• Between these ranges, the Shayok, Indus and Zanskar rivers flow and most of the population lives in valleys of these rivers.
• Ladakh is not your ordinary hillstation.
• At an average height of 10,000ft, one must acclimatise very well in Leh before venturing out.
• Must rest in the hotel for 24 hours and take plenty of fluids.
• Elderly and children need special attention.
• Altitude sickness also called acute mountain sickness or AMS can hit anyone, anytime. Be prepared.
• It is caused by physical distress from the difficulty of adjusting to lower oxygen pressure at high altitude.
• Usually self-treatable
• Usually self-diagnosable
• Lab tests or imaging rarely required
• Short-term: resolves within days to weeks
• Most cases of altitude sickness are mild, but some may be life-threatening.
• Symptoms tend to occur within hours after arrival at high altitude and include headache, nausea, shortness of breath and inability to exercise.
• Mild cases may resolve in one to three days.
• Severe cases may require oxygen, medication and moving to a lower altitude.
• ALWAYS LISTEN TO YOUR BODY !
