Bauernfest Petrópolis – German Settler’s Party – Commemoration Begins This Week
This is the biggest party we have in Petrópolis, the commemoration of the German Colonization on June 29th, and the party, according to the Mayor House, will last nine days beginning this next Friday, June 23rd.
This festivity is responsible for a good income injection allowing the city to grow even more in many areas where this money is invested such as education and health. Petropolis receives more than 300 thousand people from all over the country during the celebration doubling the number of inhabitants.

In Petrópolis it is still possible to speak German with old families and they still maintain some private courses in the Mayor House and also in private homes for those who want to learn the language. The German food is also something very common in Petrópolis, with many different “würsts” and typical pastries, sauerkraut, and many different sweets. As the party is in winter, and the city gets really cold this time of the year, it is good to sip some hot beverages made with cognac and chocolate or try a variety of homemade beers.

There are also typical dances performed by Brazilian dance groups formed in the city a long time ago and there is a competition between them. At this time of the year, it is also possible to see girls and boys dressing nice German costumes and the city gets so impressively colorful!
I will be photographing the party and will let you all know about it through my lenses and words. Hope you enjoy it!
Thank you so much for your visit!
