Among the many UNESCO sites of Italy certainly could not miss the historic center of Florence. City of art known all over the world Florence is considered one of the most sought after destinations of cultural tourism which, in the region of Tuscany, has one of its strong points.
Florentine museums and monuments contain works of art and creativity that represent the best of Italian artistic production.
The sites included in the UNESCO list in Italy are 53: it is the country with the largest number of Unesco sites followed by China (52) and Spain (46).
In Italy there are several historic centers or cities included in the Unesco heritage list to demonstrate how great our artistic heritage is, such as the city of Florence.
This beautiful city, the cradle of the Italian Renaissance, is the destination for many tourists and young people every year who want to admire the many works of art found in its museums.
The city of Florence was declared Patriarch of Unesco in 1982 with this reason:
“Historic Centre of Florence
Built on the site of an Etruscan settlement, Florence, the symbol of the Renaissance, rose to economic and cultural pre-eminence under the Medici in the 15th and 16th centuries. Its 600 years of extraordinary artistic activity can be seen above all in the 13th-century cathedral (Santa Maria del Fiore), the Church of Santa Croce, the Uffizi and the Pitti Palace, the work of great masters such as Giotto, Brunelleschi, Botticelli and Michelangelo.
