Delayed Post-Stream Summary (14/06/20) & stream and hardware changes/upgrades & other stuff megapost

Apologies for the delay on the stream closing post, but I was feeling pretty tired after my stream, especially given that I had to extend the closing time, given I had some serious technical issues which delayed the stream start by 30-40+ minutes, and necessitated a restart into Windows because Proton was acting up badly for me at the time! This post-stream summary is going to be a full-on blog post this time, and thus breaks away from the normal format of what I normally do post-stream summaries as; the reason being that this is my first stream in a while, and for this post at least, the format doesn't work. Things should go back to normal from the next stream onwards.

In any case, I successfully completed my first stream, despite the issues mentioned above, and maybe a couple of other issues that occurred as well! In any case, I feel like 19:00-23:00 is the best time for the stream on Sunday, whilst I use the time I have before launching the *Super Sunday Show/Stream* in February to find a new slot for the stream being replaced by it in the future, seeing as I'm buying myself more time by having my solo stream on Sunday, whilst also getting people used to having a stream on a Sunday! The time slot will probably be adjusted somewhat, but I will say that the stream will not go past 00:00, be that the solo stream or SSS, so there will likely be a timing change when the SSS takes over the slot. Although it's not relevant for another 6-8 months, it's important to set this out from the start, so people know what the plan of action is moving forward!

As for the stream itself, it went pretty well, after the initial technical hiccups. I ended up playing C&C Tiberian Dawn Remastered for more than 2 hours (as GDI), but given the technical issues I faced getting it all to work, I decided that doing both it and *Red Alert Remastered* was probably a good idea! Of course, this won't be the case from the next stream, as we do the starter game, along with the main game, which will probably be RA (Soviets), just so I can get it finished, with GDI following after. After that, I want to do the Allies and NOD campaigns, and after that, I'll probably take a break from C&C, though there are still the Covert Ops, Console, Dino, Counterstrike, The Aftermath, Giant Ant, and Retaliation missions to get through, so they'll definitely be revisited at some point.

I've not yet decided what I want to do, but I might revisit Doom by way of Final Doom, given that Doom Eternal was recently released, although I may also play Doom 64 first, depending on the chronological order. Alternatively, I might delve into some Doom mods, seeing as there are some interesting ones out there worth taking a look at! Either way, this stream, marks a change in the way I stream, which I have gone into many times before, but the long and short of it is that I'm only going to be doing 2 solo streams a week - one on Twitch, the other on multiple platforms - with the Sunday stream eventually being seconded to the *Super Sunday Show/Stream* that I mentioned above; this will currently be on Twitch as well, seeing as it's essentially a "neutral" platform that everyone should have access to, be it PC or console.

I can't go into much detail about any of the streams yet, as I really don't know how things will pan out right now, but I will be trying to redo my blog to reflect the new format of things. Additionally, Twitch has recently updated the way it does profiles, so you'll now be able to see streaming timetables, which means that my Twitch profile needs redoing as well! There's going to be a lot of upheaval in many respects over the next couple of months, so don't be surprised to see a mesh between old and new things, as I'm doing things in stages and also based upon what is the easiest to change at the time! Gryphon (my Kappamon) will still be around, but I'm going to be changing my overlays to make things a bit better presentation-wise, plus I want to fix any outstanding issues that have popped up, though I also want to streamline stuff too.

Also, I need to sort out my PC, as it's apparent to me that it's time to replace the CPU in my current rig. The RAM situation is still okay, and although the GPU is kinda weak, I want to save up for an RTX 2060 Super, although that said, I may actually get a 1660 Ti before that point, which means that I might end up going for an RTX 2070 Super for my "new" rig instead. The 1050 Ti is a solid card, but at this point, I'm outgrowing it. Additionally, I need to replace the wireless card as well, because I have a better router now, plus the card I've chosen (with a new one coming for my new rig) also supports Bluetooth, on top of the WiFi 6 (802.11ax) which I got it for, so things should be futureproofed in that regard. I also need to perform a full reinstall of Linux Mint, as well as Windows 10, just to make sure everything performs as it should.

The version of Linux Mint I'm choosing to install is version 20, which has just reached Beta at this time, so it's likely I'll end up staggering things out over a week, which ideally shouldn't interfere with the streaming schedule, but if it does, I'll provide an update. Lastly, given that I clearly have cooling issues with the current PC case I'm using, I'm going to be replacing the case for my current rig, and returning it to my old i5-650 build. I also plan to get a case for my new rig as well, but that'll be further down the line. Hopefully, by changing the case, and making sure I mount some (working!) fans, it should help with getting rid of the hot air.

I might actually stream, or do a video on the upgrades do on my main rig, seeing as it'd be something interesting to stream. I do also want to give my current rig a new HDD too, because it's been pretty lacking storage-wise for quite a while, and given that SSHDs only cap out at 2TB, I'm looking at getting a 6TB, most likely done in a 4TB Linux and 2TB Windows, rather than a 3-3 split, as my daily driver is Linux Mint, and I spend the most time there. I'll probably also use an external drive for all my downloads as well, rather than having them on an internal drive, mainly because then they're accessible to all PCs.

I have a lot of ideas for my systems, so it's a case of getting the components, and getting things done! I'm not sure what I'll be doing with my i5-650 build, which includes the possibility of also getting one of those WiFi 6/Bluetooth cards, but at the same time, I could also make it a powerful XP build (albeit not as powerful as my main rig, the chipset of which was declared an "Ultimate XP Build", but that would necessitate using a 9-series GeForce card unless I can find a way to get a 10-series to work somehow. In any case, it's not a priority; my current and future rigs are. I still need to fix the socket on my new board, and I'm feeling like I may be able to attempt it soon, but I'll have to take things as they come.

In any case, I have a lot of plans, and my current primary rig will eventually become a secondary one, as I tool it out to have features that my new primary won't have, such as a BluRay burner, as optical media is mostly on its way out; I foresee that my proper future rig (more current-gen) won't likely have an optical drive, but I'll still have access to one where I need to, be that via another computer, or an external, as I eventually foresee the need to have an external BD drive, as the requirement for optical drives on a modern PC is increasingly redundant; a lot of cases newer don't even have drive bays any more for instance, which means a lot more hassle finding a case that is suitable for my needs, so it's likely an older PC being kept around for burning discs is going to become a must. Likewise, I want to also set up a 5.25 floppy drive on a PC too, on top of a 3.5 inch floppy, though it's likely that it'll only have the one HDD, especially if I want to also stick an optical drive in it too.

This is the problem with being interested in computing history, as well as trying to help with the preservation of computer software; you need to have devices capable of reading 5.25 and 3.5 inch floppies, but also being able to rip those and optical media (and occasionally burn to it) to digital images, seeing as I'll eventually be using those in conjunction with a Gotek drive, rather than floppies themselves.

But yeah, I've gone on for far too long... I'd be very surprised if anyone actually read this, but I needed to blog this stream of consciousness in between updates because I want it to be recorded somewhere for me to be able to reflect and ponder it, later on, so I'll stop it here. If you have read this far, then kudos!

But to all of you, take care, and see you later on.
